Error: Cannot read custom dictionary due to corrupted custom dictionary file.
Error:
Cannot read custom dictionary.
Cause:
This problem occurs because the custom dictionary file CUSTOM.DIC is corrupted.
Solution:
Delete the file CUSTOM.DIC currently in the WINDOWS\MSAPPS\PROOF folder, and then create a new one.
1) Delete CUSTOM.DIC in the WINDOWS\MSAPPS\PROOF folder in Windows Explorer:
a) Open Windows Explorer. (The Exploring window appears.)

b) (Optional) Select the drive where the WINDOWS folder is located, typically Drive C.
NOTE: Select the drive ONLY when all folders within the drive are not displayed in the 'All Folders' list box on the left-hand side of the 'Exploring' window.
c) Open the WINDOWS\MSAPPS\PROOF folder. (All files within the folder appear in the Contents of Proof list box on the right-hand side of the Exploring window.)
d) Select (click once on) 'CUSTOM.DIC' in the 'Contents of Proof' list box. (The file is highlighted.)

e) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Delete'. (A message pops up asking to confirm the deletion.)

f) Click 'Yes'. (The file is moved to the Recycle Bin.)
g) (Optional) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to exit Windows Explorer.
2) Create a new CUSTOM.DIC in Excel:
a) Click 'Microsoft Excel' on the taskbar to switch to Excel.
b) Select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Spelling...'. (A message appears stating CUSTOM.DIC does not exist and asking whether to create it.)
c) Click 'Yes'. (The Spelling dialog box appears.)
d) (Optional) Check the spelling of the existing worksheet.
e) Click 'Cancel' to finish creating a new CUSTOM.DIC and to close the 'Spelling' dialog box.
